REVIEW: Afternoon Tea at Mews of Mayfair, Lancashire Court ...

When we visited Mews of Mayfair we’d originally planned to take our afternoon tea out on the terrace, but with good old British weather being up to its usual self so we took it inside, in the warmth of this lovely modern restaurant.

Food wise and it’s a completely different story offering a fantastic afternoon tea in the centre of London.

No afternoon tea is complete without a glass of Champagne (although we may not have had just one glass) and here they serve Veuve Cliquot – a Champagne I’ve never really took the time to appreciate before but have since fallen a little in love with.

Starting in good old-fashioned afternoon tea style (at the bottom) we munched on an array of finger sandwiches such as Philadelphia & cucumber on caramelised onion bread (my favourite), Burford brown egg mayonnaise on sun-dried tomato bread, Lambton & Jackson smoked salmon on poppy-seed bagel and Cotswold chicken ceaser salad wrap – which was a little plain for us and could do with some improvement – otherwise the sandwiches here were a very solid offering and the breads notably good on all, it makes a nice change to the plain breads offered at most other traditional afternoon teas in London.

All in all we had a fantastic afternoon tea at Mews of Mayfair and one I can highly recommend.

Two spring afternoon tea in one weekend, the weather was so good that I couldn’t resist.

I normally grab afternoon teas in a hotel or in a tea room but the Mews of Mayfair restaurant is well worth a try as well: This modern brasserie is located in a small alley, right in the heart of Mayfair.

Each guest gets one plain and one fruit scone, served with the usual strawberry jam and clotted cream.

Expect a phone call on the day of the afternoon tea, in order to confirm your booking.

The Mews of Mayfair afternoon tea serves a good afternoon tea.

Food and DrinkAt Mews of Mayfair Smart and stylish throughout, enjoy the moreish British-inspired dishes with fido in the bright and contemporary first-floor brasserie, the buzzy, chic downstairs bar complete with deep leather sofas and 18th century chandelier, or the picturesque courtyard.

Doggy delights If your pawfect partner in crime is small, he’s welcome to join you in the brasserie, but if you’re with a larger dog you’ll need to dine in the bar or courtyard, but you can still enjoy the full brasserie menu.

Mews of Mayfair puts an exquisite twist on a classic, so don’t expect just any slice of cake or cup of tea.

At weekends, a brunch menu is served from 11am to 4pm, in the brasserie only (with classic roasts available on the Sunday).

The extra bits On Monday evenings, bring your own wine when you dine in the brasserie for a £5 corkage fee per bottle.

Hidden away in a historic courtyard, Mews of Mayfair offers up a four floor extravanganza of eating and drinking opulence.

Whilst the stylish decor and tucked away location ooze exclusivity, there's no membership fee making it more accessible than many bars in Mayfair.

Once C18th mews houses, the venue is now one of the most elegant bars in London for enjoying some upmarket dining, drinks and dancing.

It has even extended across the courtyard with the Mayfair Pizza Co. restaurant and bar.

With the exclusive feel of top secret bars in London without any of the pretension, Mews of Mayfair is the ideal choice if you're looking for luxury in a friendly location.

Situated opposite a favourite bar of mine, Cartizze Mayfair, in Lancashire Court I was looking forward to seeing how well the food in the lived up to its exemplary reputation.

Occupying four levels, every need is catered for here and the sprawling number of rooms means you'll probably never see everything.

Upstairs is the relaxed brasserie, and on the top floor is a sumptuously decorated private dining room.

Every time I've visited Lancashire Court the atmosphere has been buzzing, and while the first floor restaurant was quiet at the beginning of the evening it was soon full of chatter as couples sat down next to families and clusters of business men enjoyed long lingering dinners.

This smart, sophisticated restaurant serves modern and classic fare that delivers on every level.

The Brasserie at Mews of Mayfair features British produce and British cooking extensively: there is even a map of the British Isles on the menu showing where their raw materials come from, such as beef from Devon and Yorkshire, and halloumi cheese from Sussex.

On Sundays there is a ‘Roast and Toast’ menu, two courses for £20 or three for £25.

There are three private rooms: the top-floor Dining Room with its own Chef’s Menu, the Art Gallery, and La Cave, which doubles as a wine retailer.
